Emergency Services Student Placement - QLD
- Short-term opportunity (three-month period / 12 weeks)
- Work time and dates are flexible (as arranged with supervisor)
- Students may spend 1-2 days per week on site (office or field-based), depending on the project requirements
- Must be able to commit to at least 20 hours per week working on project-related activities
- Regular progress meetings with supervisor

The program
As a postgraduate student, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects in disaster management and resilience building. Working within the Emergency Services team, you'll engage in research or field projects aligned with your academic studies. The placement will be monitored by the Emergency Services Lead in collaboration with the academic supervisor(s) at Griffith University.

For this role, you will need excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a broad range of people, including those with different lived experiences, abilities, and cultures. Your advanced technical proficiencies will enable you to critically analyse information and data, creating innovative and evidence-based solutions and recommendations.

The impact
As a student placement, your skills will assist in addressing gaps in emergency sector research, policies, and practices, and contribute to setting recommendations and innovative solutions that enhance community capacities and reduce vulnerabilities. You will gain invaluable experience and exposure to working within a dynamic emergency services team focused on community outcomes. Completion of the project will result in achieving 20 credit points toward your academic progress.
Application requirements
- For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross
- You will need to provide a recent copy of your CV
- The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory. Red Cross can assist you in applying for this check.
- You will need to hold a current Australian Drivers License to undertake this role
