About the Role

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Documentation and Policy Specialist to join our Communities team. In this key role, you’ll lead the development and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and operational documentation across a range of community services, including child and family, disability, early learning and mental health.

This is a hands-on, strategic role where you'll shape policy in ways that are clear, practical, and centred around those delivering and receiving services. You’ll work closely with service leaders, quality and practice teams, governance, and frontline staff to ensure documentation supports compliance, consistency, and service excellence.

You will:

  • Design, write and update policy and procedure documents to support compliance, quality, and service delivery
  • Apply human-centred design principles to create accessible, user-friendly documentation
  • Liaise with internal subject matter experts and leadership to ensure accuracy, clarity and alignment with strategy and legislation
  • Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory standards and reflect them in policy updates
  • Lead internal consultation and quality assurance processes
  • Prepare reports, summaries and guidance materials for audits, leadership teams and other stakeholders
  • Promote continuous improvement by embedding feedback loops and data-informed enhancements
  • Build internal capability by mentoring teams on documentation best practices

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments, loves clarity and structure, and can translate compliance and best practice into documents that people want to read and can easily use.

About You

You are a meticulous, organised professional with a passion for social change and improving community outcomes. You bring:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in policy development, ideally within not-for-profit, health, or human services sectors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within complex organisations
  • Skilled stakeholder engagement, consultation, and collaboration abilities
  • A strong understanding of clinical governance, regulatory frameworks, and evidence-based practice in community services
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with policy management systems is a plus
  • A proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams

Bonus points:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in health policy, clinical governance, or related fields
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies
  • Experience navigating complex organisations and managing through influence
