As Chief Licensing Inspector, you will:

Inquire into and report on alcohol licensing applications, ensuring compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.

Monitor and promote best practice and compliance across licensed premises, including proactive inspections and enforcement actions, some of which may occur outside standard business hours.

Provide high-quality, customer-responsive advice and support to stakeholders, including internal teams, the District Licensing Committee, NZ Police, and community groups.

Prepare and present reports and evidence before the District Licensing Committee and the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority.

Foster strong relationships with iwi, local authorities, and community partners to support the reduction of alcohol-related harm and promote community wellbeing.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and contribute to continuous improvement within the licensing team.
You will bring:

At least two years’ experience in an investigative or regulatory environment.

A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., NZ Certificate in Regulatory Compliance Level 4).

A current full New Zealand driver’s licence.

Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice in licensing compliance.

Proven problem-solving skills, resilience, and the ability to manage complex or escalated issues.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience presenting evidence in judicial or quasi-judicial settings preferred.

Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills, with a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
